Living Like a King - Inside Graceland

 The Living Room

 Vernon and Gladys' Room

 The Dining Room

The Kitchen. Bitching Carpet and a wood grain microwave.
Just how many peanut butter and 'nanner sandwichs were consumed in here?

The TV Room. Three TV's, because that's how many the President watched.

The Pool Room. Pleated cloth walls and ceiling. I'm so jealous.

Down in the The Jungle Room.

A tour through the Elvis empire. Pay your admission and wait in line. Ride the bus to the front steps. Enter. No flash photography! Stay between the velvet ropes. Keep moving. Please press the corresponding number on your audio tour.

When you think of Elvis - The King of Rock and Roll - you don't picture Graceland being as compact as it was. And oh so seventies.

Finzel Barn

Red, red, red, red, red, red, red, red, red barn. What? That's right. This barn was painted "Holy Cow That's Red" red. Looks good in front of the corn field accented by the John Deere. Located along the National Highway in Garrett County, Maryland, between Frostburg, Finzel and Grantsville.

Birding at the In-laws

I sat on the In-Law's porch last week until I had to go to the car and get my camera. Of course what I was seeing was the house finches landing on the sunflowers. Do you think they would light on the sunflower after I got my camera? Nooooooo! I did manage these, though. The house finches, ruby throated hummingbird and the house sparrow did cooperate a little.

Cody Canada and The Departed

Imagine my luck when I find out that a band I like and have been waiting for over a year to be in concert near home is in concert in Memphis during the 20 hours I would be in Memphis. The Departed is Cody Canada's new band and they have released two CD's. Cody and bassist Jeremy Plato were for a long time in the band Cross Canadian Ragweed. His new band The Departed, who I'll bet you've never heard of, alslo includes Seth James. Seth does as much singing as Cody. Really good concert in a small intimate club. The Departed play American Red Dirt/Southern Rock.

Beale Street

Walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale. My Beale Street experience lasted about 20 minutes. Walking down from BB Kings and couple blocks and walking back up. I could see where this could be a party place but you could also tell this could be a bad place to be. A large police presence gave the impression of being safe at least. There was a bit of a bluesy vibe, I stood in the street outside of Mr. Handy's Blues Hall Juke Joint listening to someone do a really good cover of Tina Turner's Rolling on the River. I did not hang out anywhere too long or eat anything, so I'll have to go back sometime. Of course, more pictures later, maybe some video.

Sun Studio

First stop once hitting Memphis was Sun Studio. The home of some of the greatest music you hadn't heard yet. Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Eldorado and the Ruckus... Well, Eldorado was our tour guide. You want to talk about someone who loves his job? Taking this tour you couldn't help but feel the magic of this place and the sounds that came from here almost 60 years ago. I'll have more pictures later, inside and out, of this historic landmark.

A House Fit for a King

We went to Graceland, Graceland, Memphis Tennessee. Yes, after 2 and a half not stop days in Nashville we blew into Memphis. We got there around 5:30 pm and were gone by 1:30 pm the next day. That's 20 hours in Memphis. Our number one purpose for being there was Graceland, Home of Elvis Presley. There will be plenty of Graceland pictures later. make no doubt about it though, Elvis Presley is an industry.
