The Audience

The Audience by Michael Snow Is a whimsical addition to the Rogers Centre in Toronto. I think he forgot the drunk guy trying to start the wave. That would make it complete. (HBC)

Smackdown at the Feeders

I sat down at the window to watch the Northern Flicker (in the yellow) feed at the suet feeder on Sunday morning and got a little surprise. Apparently woodpeckers aren't like all the little tweety birds at the seed feeder who get along. Suet blocks are only meant for one woodpecker at a time. When the Red-bellied Woodpecker (in the red) showed up, it was showtime. This lasted all of 30-45 seconds. When it was over the Flicker got the block to himself. Two hours later I saw the Red-belly back feeding alone.

Shrewsbury Fire Company

Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company, 21 West Forrest Avenue, Shrewsbury, Pa. York County Station 61. Fire service began shortly after the Borough of Shrewsbury incorporated in 1834 when the borough officials purchased a hand cart. But it wasn't until 1876 that a fire committee was formed. In 1880 a fire broke out in the fire house destroying everything. A new station was built soon after. In the early 1930's stepped were taken to form a fire company and plans to replace the old firehouse when on until after the war and a new station was dedicated 8/6/1949. On 9/27/1972 an explosion in the engine room destroyed the engine bays and the apparatus. Apparatus was quickly replaced and a new station, the current one, was rededicated 6/8/1974.
