Up, Up and Away

One of about four or five deer I saw out at and around the State Game Lands. The last two I saw were bucks. This girl wasn't waiting around for me to get the camera ready.

The Barred Owl

If you thought the young Red-tailed Hawk was cool, I'm here to prove you wrong. Monday morning, same creek, maybe a half mile south. This big old Barred Owl, I thought, was my first pictures of an owl but I caught that Snowy Owl about 3 years ago way out in a field. This guy was 25 yards off the road.

Game Land Weeds

Wild thing, You make my heart sing,
You make everything groovy, Wild thing,
Wild thing, I think I love you,
But I wanna know for sure,
Come on and hold me tight,
I love you.

Red-Tailed Hawk,part 2

Part 2 of the Red-Tailed Hawk along the creek. In the first two pictures you can see he's surrounded by the neighborhood watch. At one point the male Oriole delivered a little ass-whooping. So he moved off. The first picture shows the hawk, two Baltimore (Northern) Orioles and a Red-winged Blackbird. the second picture includes an Eastern Kingbird and it's nest.

Red-tailed Hawk

I found this young Red-tailed Hawk sitting along the gravel road overlooking this tributary to Three Square Hollow Run. He tired of me and relocated. More on that move later...

Antietam Fire Company No. 2, old station

Community Rescue Service, former Antietam Fire Company No. 2, Hagerstown Fire Department, 113 Summit Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland, Washington County. Antietam Fire Company began in 1808 as the Lafayette Company, they incorporated in 1834 as Antietam. That same year they had a station next to the courthouse. This station dates back to 1895, it burned in October 1914 and was rebuilt in 1915. At this time the Pioneer Company also shared the building. It burned again in 1920. Rebuilt again it remained the Antietam's home until a new station was built on the north side of the city in October 2012. While AFC still owns the building it is occupied by Community Rescue Squad, an ALS provider, who prior moving here shared space in Hagerstown Station 4.

Marjorie Glacier Calving

While we spent most of the day in Glacier Bay we spent most of 3 hours parked in front of the Marjorie Glacier. We saw quite a few calvings. A calving is when a piece of the glacier breaks off and tumbles into the water. The breaking off sounds like a gunshot. You would hear the crack and start looking for the falling ice. Sometime it would hit the water with a roar. I didn't get any on video but I did get one in a 20 picture series.

Come in here dear boy, have a cigar, You're gonna go far,
You're gonna fly high, you're never gonna die,
You're gonna make it if you try, they're gonna love you.
Well, I've always had a deep respect, and I mean that most sincerely,
The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think,
Oh, by the way, Which one's Pink?

The Salmon Barn

A barn overlooking the Big Spring on the outskirts of Newville. This is not what one would consider a typical barn color. Kind of an orange-salmon-rusty color. But, hey, Why be normal.

Mallards in Flight

More from along the Big Spring in Newville. Do you realize how many pictures of flying ducks you have to delete before you get one to post? Plus a bonus photobomb by a cardinal. What more could you ask for?
