Friendship Fire Company No. 5

Carlisle Fire and Rescue Services, old Friendship Fire Company No. 5 station, 636 North West Street, Carlisle, Pa. Former Cumberland County Company 42, now a part of Company 45. The Friendship Fire Company was formed on March 14, 1911. Their station was completed in January 1912 and dedicated November 30,1912. The steel building out back that housed the apparatus was built in the late 1970's. They joined the Empire Hook and Ladder Company No 4 to form the Empire Friendship Firefighters Association on January 15, 1992 and in April of 1996 the moved to a shared station on Carlisle Springs Road. They shared the same station but operated separately until merging  July 2, 2006.  In 2010 the Cumberland-Goodwill Fire Rescue EMS, Inc merged with the EFFA to form Carlisle Fire and Rescue Services.

The Turnpike Troubadours

One Saturday evening we drove to Cumberland, Maryland for the annual Tri-State Wing-Off. We hung out in the shade and enjoyed a few wings and some of the opening acts. The Davidson Brothers, whom I had never heard of, turned out to be pretty darn good. Then it was the Old 97's. They've been around a while and I've heard some of there stuff. When the Turnpike Troubadours came on stage we worked our way through the crowd to a good spot. We were not disappointed, the were awesome. I was amazed at how many people knew all the words for a band you don't hear on the radio. Ever. They're out of Oklahoma and have been around only a few years. They are one of my favorite Red Dirt bands.

Indian River County Emergency Services, Station 10

Indian River County Emergency Services, Station 10, 62 North Broadway, Fellsmere, Florida. Researched failed me on this station. There was a Fellsmere Volunteer Fire Department. They possibly went inactive November 9, 1990. At that time they may have joined the South Indian River County Fire District and by a referendum vote in 1991 the SIRCFD became the Indian River County Department of Emergency Services (now IRCES). Station 10 was opened in 1996.

Lilly Community Fire Company

Lilly Community Fire Company, 505 Main Street, Lilly, Pa. Cambria County Station 72. Chartered on September 8, 1903 the LCFC serves the Borough of Lilly and Washington Township along with mutual aid to other communities. The present property was purchased in 1941 and converted to a fire station after World War II. Meetings and social events are held in an adjacent building. The firehouse sustained damage in a adjoining building fire in December 1996.
