Allentown Fire Department, old Pioneer No. 9

Allentown Fire Department, Pioneer No. 9, 701 North 8th Street, Allentown, Pa., Lehigh County. In 1870 four volunteer fire companies united to form the Allentown Fire Department. The Pioneer Station was one of four stations added some time before 1914. I find no history of when this station was built or closed. I believe that the social club next door remained open but recently closed.  The AFD currently run out of 6 stations. (update 8/25/2014)  In December of 1958 Engine 9 moved with Engine 4 to the new Central Station on Chew Street.
