West End Fire and Rescue Company No. 3

West End Fire and Rescue Company No. 3, 49 Lurgan Avenue, Shippensburg, Pa. Franklin County Company 15, Cumberland County Company 54. Organized on September 13, 1955  to provide emergency rescue service to the west end of Shippensburg. WEFR started with a 1947 Dodge retired bread truck converted to a rescue truck. A 1935 International pumper was purchased in 1958. The original firehouse was a garage that sat to the rear of Stewart Place until a new station was built and dedicated on October 4, 1970. It was dedicated in memory of W. Mervin Fogelsanger who died in the line of duty while assisting at a fire downtown February 17, 1969. A second story was added to the rear of the new station in 1976. On September 22, 2012 the new engine bays and watch room were dedicated. Since January of 2014 Shippensburg Area EMS has housed an ambulance in the old engine bay.
