Friendship Fire and Hose Company, No. 1

Friendship Fire and Hose Company No. 1 aka Elizabethtown Fire Department, 171 North Mount Joy Street, Elizabethtown, Pa. Lancaster County Station 74. The Union Fire Company started on January 26, 1836 in Elizabethtown. The Unions reorganized in 1858 as the Friendship Fire Company and again reorganized December 3, 1878 as the Friendship Fire and Hose Company No. 1. I can not find where there is an official change to Elizabethtown Fire Department or if this is just the entity that is responsible for fire protection within the Borough. The old station at 117 South Market Street, was built in 1884. It was added to in 1890 and again in 1956. It was eventually decommissioned in 1976 when the new station opened on Mount Joy Street.
