Boots Off the Ground

"Since you mean to hang me, I'd like to atone to my maker."
"You got one minute, make your peace"
"Where do I begin? I regret trifling with married women. I'm fairly ashamed of cheating at cards. I deplore my occasional departures from the truth. Forgive me for taking your name in vain, Saturday drunkenness, Sunday sloth. Above all, forgive me for the men I've killed in anger (looks over at Asa Watts) and those I am about to."

Jebediah Nightlinger (Roscoe Lee Browne) praying to God before he's about to be hanged by Asa Watts (Bruce Dern) and his gang.

The Backyard

The feeders continue to do well as winter turns to spring. Still have some Dark-Eyed Juncos hanging out. The House Sparrows are everywhere and the Northern Cardinals are frequent visitors. Also seeing Mourning Doves, House Finches and the darned Grackles.

The Mid-Point of the Appalachian Trail

So I spent Easter morning hiking to the mid-point of the Appalachian Trail. That's right the point that is 1090.5 miles from the start in Springer Mountain , Georgia, 1090.5 mile from the end in Mt. Katahdin, Maine and 1.25 mile from the truck. Not a bad hike in, but some steep sections and a switchback were a warning for the hike out. Just a quick breather at the Tom's Run Shelter and the signpost was just ahead. The hike out was uphill. And that's all I have to say about that.
