Gamelands Sunrise

My sky comes from an early morning drive around one of the Pennsylvania State Game Lands last month. I hope no one tires of my sunrise pictures, I'm sure this isn't the last. For a look at the sky around the world, today is the day to click on the SkyWatch icon on the right sidebar and see what everyone else is seeing.

Mel's Coke, Hbg (PG 131)

I thought I was all out of Painted Gentleman pictures until I ran onto this one. NOW, I think I am out of Painted Gentleman pictures. This was taken somewhere in Harrisburg last March. My usual habit of getting a picture of a nearby street sign failed on this one, so I can't tell you exactly where it is. What it is, though, is an old and very faded Coca-Cola sign. If you look at the middle of the painting you can make out a Coke bottle at an angle. This place looks like a typical corner store. It is obviously no longer Mel's Food Market, it appears to be a house now. I am in serious need of a road trip somewhere to refuel the "PG Files".

Hogwarts Academy, NYC

This, I found, near the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park. It was right at the top of the steps before you descended to the fountain itself. Kinda had a Harry Potter feel to it.

The Dead of Winter

Just trying to capture a feeling. Not sure I did, so don't be surprised if you see a picture similar to this is the near future. Maybe I need less of an overcast, or straighter corn rows. There is just something missing, I'll think about it. I see other bloggers pull off this view. Me? I think I'll try this again next weekend.

The Dam Black Vultures

Conowingo Dam has more to offer than just a bunch of Bald Eagles, there is also thousands of gulls and Black Vultures. The vultures seem to hang out on the power towers and I also saw them lounging on the rocks. Towards late morning some did give us a fly over. I think I was the only fool snapping away as they passed over. This isn't the first time I've seem Black Vultures, we saw them in Chincoteague last Christmas.

Mr. Goldfinch Makes His Move

I am at a bit of a loss on what to post today. It's 20 degrees and windy, so no birdwalk for me today. As little outside as possible today. These American Goldfinches were at the feeders at Wildwood Lake, out side of Harrisburg, last spring. Sorry, I don't really know how he made out.

Happy, Happy

Happy New Year, everyone. Hope you all have recovered from last night. Hopefully you're out of bed by now, at least. We stopped by the Anchor Drop on the square in Shippensburg for all of about 12 minutes last night. We got there just in time for them to raise the anchor just in time to drop it. Wouldn't you think that they should raise the anchor to celebrate a new year, a new journey? Welcome to Shippensburg. Walking was tricky with a fresh coat of ice on everything. And when the snowballs started we departed. A few revellers a block or two southeast of the square started setting off bottle rockets and other small fireworks. Then I went to bed. The end.
