Hell's Half Acre

 Hell's Half Acre
Natrona County, Wyoming
October 2018

Another of our planned stops on the drive east was Hell's Half Acre in Natrona County. It was once home to a restaurant, hotel and campground. All now gone and all chainlinked off. This was the movie location for the planet Klendathu in the movie "Starship Troopers".

Sacajawea Cemetery

Sacajawea Cemetery
Fort Washakie, Wyoming
October 2018

The drive east across Wyoming involved several planned stops and a few unplanned. One that was planned was the Sacajawea Cemetery in Fort Washakie on the Wind River Indian Reservation. The cemetery sits a little outside of town and took us some back and forth to find. This was one of the most colorful cemeteries I think I've ever been in.

Grand Teton National Park

Grand Teton National Park
Moose, Wyoming
October 2018

Shortly after noon on our second day in Yellowstone we rolled into the Grand Teton National Park. Just as we hit the park there was another bear jam. This time it was a bigger grizzly, who FYI, is only about 50 yards from the sign as I took the sign picture. We continued south through the park and into Moose Junction. To just stand there and look at the mountain range was breathtaking. Beautiful. From the visitor center in Moose we drove out Antelope Flats Road to see the famous Mormon Row barns. Then we swung down to Schwabacher Landing to catch the reflections in the Snake River. We later sat at Glacier Point Turnout and waited for a sunset that near really showed up. Spent the night in Jackson, Wyoming and headed back into the park early. Spotted moose, elk, antelope and finally scored our black bear sighting at the visitors center. With overcast skies, by late morning we headed east though the Bridger-Teton National Forest for our final trek across Wyoming.

Yellowstone National Park, Day 2

Yellowstone National Park
Northwest, Wyoming
October 2018

Our second day into Yellowstone didn't start with overcast and drizzle, instead it started with 3" of snow. Entering through the west gate this time from West Yellowstone, Montana, we headed back towards Madison. But took the northeast route through Norris and into Canyon Village then south back to Fishing Bridge. Next we skirted around the Lake again to West Thumb and Grant Village then headed south to Grand Teton National Park. The snow brought out the best of YNP, elk, coyotes, bison, wolves and an eagle. I guess since we skipped the entire north side of the Park we just have to plan another visit. I don't think I'll get any arguments.

Yellowstone National Park, Day 1

Yellowstone National Park
Northwest, Wyoming
October 2018

We rolled into Yellowstone from Cody, Wyoming through the east gate. As with most of our trip it was overcast and misty. We crossed over Sylvan Pass and around the north side of  Yellowstone Lake. We were headed right for Old Faithful. But first it was our first bear jam. A young grizzly. After Old Faithful and the Old Faithful Inn it was north through the Upper, Midway and Lower Geyser Basins. Then to Madison and west into West Yellowstone, Montana.
