New York City's Bravest and Finest

Today's Fireday Friday is just some random apparatus from the streets of Manhattan. The first picture is Engine 7. E7 doesn't have there own website but here's what I found. Their house is located at 100 Duane Street along with Ladder 1. (About 7 blocks west and 5 blocks south of Chinatown). The second is Mobile Command Center 1. MCC1 is stationed out in Brooklyn on Rockaway Avenue with Engine 233 and Ladder 176 (no website here, either). No doubt staged here along the Bowery for the Lunar New Year Parade. And the third picture is and NYPD Toyota Prius. (Insert joke here).

Acadia Whitetail

While in Maine last summer I saw more than a few deer. Some I was able to get standing still long enough to get some pictures of, but most didn't. This doe didn't have a care that I was there, my guess is she had a fawn hiding nearby. And until a couple days ago I didn't realize how good this picture was. Most of them where just almost, you know what I mean? I like this one.

Rakestraws, Since 1902 (PG 135)

"Hey, Barry, does this look like the Gentleman you saw?" This is the sign Barry had mentioned then couldn't remember where he saw it. It is located just north of Chambersburg off Route 11 on Siloam Road. Now the Zero Ice and Storage, I think the sign says Siloam Ice and Storage. And Rakestraw's is a dairy in Mechanicsburg, PA that is most known for ice cream but back in the day also bottled milk and, I'm sure, all those other dairy things.
Note no. 1... picture number 2... sorry the snow on the roof got blown out... I couldn't bring it back.
Note no. 2... When I looked back at my Painted Gentleman list... I somehow missed No. 135... so here it now is... back next week with No. 139.

Conowingo Hydro-Electric Plant

Today we go back to the Conowingo Dam. Located just south of the Mason Dixon line on the Susquehanna River. These pictures are from my late November trip down there. Lots of eagles that day. I planned on returning between Christmas and New Years with Bradley and Shane but major snow on Saturday that week nixed those plans. Bradley and Shane eventually made it down but said the peak of eagle activity had passed. Last week Mom and Dad went down and told me they only saw a few eagles and only two photographers there. I guess I picked the best time to go, I'll remember that next year.

Marching in Like Lions

He we go... March. That's right almost time to put our snow shovels away and grease up the lawn mowers. Hard to believe with all the snow still hanging around that spring is less than three weeks away. A slight panic this afternoon when I thought I didn't have any lions to post for March 1st. Then I remembered these. Back to Chinatown for one more day. I don't think anyone liked my trip to NYC for the Lunar New Year parade last weekend. After a week of posting pictures from Sunday afternoon's parade and elsewhere it took some pictures of a fire truck until someone commented. So although Chinatown week is over I still have pictures to post from my short trip. I'll space them out from here. I promise. Enjoy your March.

Around the 'house 2

More pictures from around the firehouse. Hey, if nothing else you can steal these and use them for wallpaper/screensavers.
