The Historic Fairfield Inn

The Historic Fairfield Inn has been around since 1757, and in those 258 years it has seen the likes of Patrick Henry, Jeb Stuart, Robert E. Lee and Mamie Eisenhower. It is one of Americas oldest continually operated inns. Located on Main Street (Route 116) in Fairfield, Pa.

Colonel's Creek Campgound

Colonel's Creek Campgrounds sits in the 7000 block of Chambersburg Road east of Fayetteville. It is even east of Caledonia State Park. Once known as Miller's Heated Cabins and Kane's Cabins, about all that is left is the main building and the painted green post on the wagon wheels that was a makeshift cannon. This campground and cabins probably dates back to the early 40's. maybe earlier. The cabins are gone now, even though the interwebs still list it in campground searches. I was half expecting Brian Doyle Murray At Kamp Komfort. "Oh, they're very nice tents."

Ms. Penny Candy

When driving east on Route 30 nearing the top of the mountain, before heading down towards Gettysburg, on your left there will be some elephants. A veritable menagerie of pachyderms. At this point you know you've arrived at Mister Ed's Elephant Museum and Candy Emporium. Yes, it's the one you've heard about. And if you're one of the lucky ones you have enjoyed Mister Ed's acting abilities in the movie "Route 30". No candy this day for me though, just a few pictures of Ms. Penny. I used to stop at his old shop for peanut butter fudge, like, 35 years ago. Mmmmm. Fudge.

Cashtown Inn

More running around over in Adams County. I thought that maybe the apple blossoms would be out, but no, just like everywhere else everything is brown and the grass is green.  While going through Cashtown I noticed that the late afternoon sun was looking good on the old inn. Built in 1797, it's been a tavern since 1815 and during the Gettysburg Campaign in 1863 it served as a headquarters for some of the Confederate officers. Still a B&B today some people seem to think it is haunted.

Finally got out for a little drive this weekend. A beautiful weekend for one. Saw this 1952 Chevrolet Suburban rusting next to the two buildings that were rotting. Had to go around a long block to do a drive-by shooting. They say that Chevy's HHR, built between 2005 and 2011, was based on a 1949 Suburban.

Newburg Hopewell Volunteer Fire Company. old station

Newburg Hopewell Volunteer Fire Company, 106 High Street, Newburg, Pa. Cumberland County Company 51. Organized June 24, 1957, NHVFC then purchased the old Schoolhouse the following February. With a few addition to the rear it would service as their home for until building a new station just east of the borough in 2012. The old station, now called the "Auxiliary Building" was refurbished into a rental hall that they use for fundraising.

The Battle

I thought this was one of those pictures when I took it. The smoke, the foam, the early morning sun. It all nearly reduces it down to a battle of two firefighters against a common foe. Without even seeing the enemy.
