Outside the Snow is Falling

The snow is again falling to the ground but this time it is laying faster than last Saturday. I guess the ground is colder tonight. The weatherman says it will just turn to rain so there is no getting too excited, the shovel can stay in the shed. These pictures are from Saturday, taken near the end of our afternoon hunt. If nothing else we saw a couple of beavers swimming in this pond. Pretty cool.

The Bar

The Bar in Bar Harbor, Maine. This is where the town got it's name. and the big green hill? That's Bar Island. Have you ever walked to an island before? At periods of low tide this sand bar is exposed and you not only can walk but drive over to the island. This is a gradual thing so you don't have to get visions of Charlton Heston commanding the Red Sea over you when you get half way over. Definitely a unique thing to say you did. Been there, done that, checked it off my list. What's next?

Rockin Around the Christmas Tree

Today was the day...

Find it...

Cut it...

Haul it...

Wrap it...

Right now it is on the back porch and I'm hoping that the weather cooperates tomorrow and the rest if the snow and ice melts so that we can bring it in and decorate.

The Hunter

Today ended the first week of deer season here in Penn's Woods. The best I can say for the week is... wet. Three hours of rain on Monday, hunted 4 hours in the rain on Wednesday and Today? Snow. Big fat wet flakes. And deer? I guess it is deer season. Three. And those three came only when I adjusted my hunting area by 10 miles. Spent a day and a half on the south side and saw zip. Nada. Nothing. Nil. Thank You, PA Game Commission, I probably shouldn't tell you that I saw three deer in a week of hunting, now they'll have to sell more doe tags and take care of that. With no more vacation planned We'll give it one more try next Saturday. The picture shows my hunting partner trudging back to the truck after a snowy day afield.

Up On the Housetop, Click, Click, Click

This is the Cumberland Valley Hose Company #2 in Shippensburg. And these are their Christmas lights. They have one big advantage over the other fire departments in town when it come to hanging the lights... that is a 95' aerial truck parked right behind the center door.
I like how the small aperture and long exposure gives the lights a starry effect but finding 30 seconds of no traffic on the main drag through town isn't gonna happen.

Juveniles and SkyWatch

Today, for SkyWatch, I offer a couple more pictures from my Conowingo Dam adventure last Sunday. As I mentioned yesterday there were nearly as many juvenile eagles as there were adults. And to also repeat, for those just stopping by for SkyWatch, the distinct white head and tail don't appear until the birds are in their fifth year. And in addition I invite my SkyWatch friends to scroll backwards to see some of my other eagles pictures I've posted this week.
And, as always, to see what their sky is looking like these days click on that there SkyWatch icon I have over in the right hand sidebar. Thanks.
