FDNY 10 House, Defending Liberty (Street)

The 10 House is one of only two stations in New York City that house a ladder and engine with the same number designation. Engine and Ladder 52 in the Bronx is the other. Engine 10 and Ladder 10 are just across Liberty Street from the World Trade Centers, in Lower Manhattan, and since last June they are the home of the FDNY 9-11 Memorial Wall. This large memorial on the side of the station house is a tribute to the 343 firefighters that lost their lives on 9/11. Although I didn't tour the station, I did look around from the outside, with the new memorial being only a week old when we were there the tourist population around the firehouse was high. Other Companies were also stopping by to see the memorial when we were there.
The first picture is, of course, the front of the station. The second is a plaque on the front of the building honoring those brave men from the 10 House who answered their final alarm on 9/11/2001. Stay tuned for a post on the Memorial itself.
