Citizen's Hose Company No. 1, 103 West Commerce Street, Smyrna, Delaware. Kent County Station 44. Organized as the Smyrna Fire Company January 6, 1886. The original fire house was in the Town Hall (Opera House) on South Main Street. In 1907 they rechartered as the Citizen's Hose Company. In 1921 they were charter members of the Delaware Volunteer Fireman's Association. The first meeting in the new station on West Commerce was held November 9, 1925. 1954 saw a building extension and new bays were added in 1969/1970 and the older side was renovated into a social hall. And again in 1985 more renovations were completed.
