Citizens Fire Company, No. 1 of Newport, 301 Mulberry Street, Newport Pa. Perry County Station 10. The first organized fire company in Newport dates back to 1885. They built what is now the oldest firehouse in Perry County in 1895 at 321 Market Street. By the 1920's the Newport Safety Fire Company No. 1 had dissolved and the Citizens Fire Company No. 1 was formed in September 1925. The Citizens occupied the old station until moving into a new station at 50 South 3rd Street in 1956. By the 1990's they had outgrown that station and built the current station around the corner on Mulberry Street in 1999. The 1956 station is now home to the Newport Ambulance League, Perry County EMS Station 109.
