Chelmsford Fire Department, Station 1







 


Chelmsford Fire Department, Station 1, 50 Billerica Road, Chelmsford, Massachusetts, Middlesex County. Fire protection in Chelmsford dates back to measures taken in March 1900 to purchase fire protection equipment for the town. Chelmsford is now protected by 5 stations, Station 1, aka Center Station, aka Fire Headquarters, houses  and engine, ladder truck, rescue, command unit, brush truck, utility, gator and boat. Construction began on the Billerica Road station  July 1, 2013 and was dedicated December 13, 2014 replacing the old station 1 on North Road. The new station is dedicated to Chief Ernest G. Byam, who died in the line of duty January 31, 1965. Chief Byam died as the result of an auto accident while en route to a kitchen fire.
