Louisville Slugger Field is the home of the Louisville Bats a AAA team for the Cincinnati Reds. The field sits up the street from the Louisville Slugger factory. This is also Pee Wee Reese. Pee Wee played shortstop for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1940 until retiring from the Los Angeles Dodgers after the 1958 season. Growing up in Louisville Pee Wee played baseball in his senior year of high school and eventually went on to play for the minor league Louisville Colonels before his call up. Reese would serve in the US Navy for 3 years during World War II. In 1984 he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and had his number retired by the LA Dodgers. At his funeral in 1999 Joe Black, a black MLB pioneer, said, "Number 1 on his uniform, number 1 in our hearts"
