Lancaster County Station 64. The volunteer fire service in Lancaster dates back to the 1760's with The Union Fire Company, the Sun Fire Company and The Friendship Fire Company. The paid department in Lancaster was approved by the city on December 21, 1881 and then commenced operations in February 1882. The current station 6 was built in 1958. This station was closed from early 1997 until being reopened in early 1998.
