Hotel de Paris Museum

The Hotel de Paris Museum in Georgetown Colorado (PG 212) was built in 1875. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the museum is run by the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in the State of Colorado. Apparently Buffalo Bill slept here.

The Sunflowers are Almost Ready

We have been watching this sunflower field since it was knee high. We were in the area Saturday morning so we stopped by. Looks like next weekend there will be a traffic jam near here.

Sunset From the Top of the Mountain

I almost missed it. From here you can almost see the whole valley laid out before you. With nothing to block your view this is what you have to put up with every evening.

White Rock and the Front Range

This is a little different view of the White Rock at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs and the Front Range. Pikes Peak is off to the right.

Bugs in the Backyard

I got a bumble bee on a dying coneflower, a skipper on the edge of the bird bath (and I've cleaned it since) and a cabbage white butterfly on the butterfly bush where he belongs.

Sunshine on a Cloudy Day

After last night's brief but heavy rainstorm the sun started peeking through under the clouds which means; rainbow. Look east and there it was. Or should I say "there they were." Double rainbow.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird at the in-law's feeder. He was so darn tiny I had some issues focusing.

Mexican Sunflower

I feel a hot wind on my shoulder,
And the touch of a world that is older,
I turn the switch and check the number,
I leave it on when in bed I slumber,
I hear the rhythms of the music,
I buy the product and I never use it,
I hear the talking of the DJ,
Can't understand just what does he say?
I'm on  a Mexican radio.

Follow that Swallowtail

Spent parts of Sunday morning following this guy around my backyard. He was hanging out on the butterfly bush on the hill.

Some sunset are just epic. Driving around Saturday evening I noticed that the sunset had potential. We found a place to park the truck and wait it out. This is from the outskirts of Chambersburg, Pa.

Pelican Island NWR

Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge is on the barrier island east of Sebastian, Florida and offers three trails to hike on. The shortest is the boardwalk Centennial Trail, just at 3/4 of a mile. We got here a little late so it was already warming up and there wasn't much to see. I'm sure in the winter there are birds everywhere.

The Golden Burro Cafe

It was mid-afternoon when we parked the car and took a stroll through the high mountain town of Leadville, Colorado. So, besides some souvenir shopping and taking picture we only spent an hour in town. Then it was back on the road north and over Tennessee Pass and into Minturn and onto Avon for the night.

Everytime

Babe, if we can't solve any problems,
Why do we lose so many tears,
Whoa, so you go on again,
When the leading man appears,
Always the same things,
But can't you see we've got everything,
Going on and on and on.
And everytime you go away,
You take a piece of me with you.

Knee Deep in Snow

Imagine if you will... sitting there soaking in the cool air blowing from the big box in your window because it's so freaking hot outside you think you're gonna melt. On the other hand remember a time not so long ago where the weather was measured in inches and not degrees. Sure had a good morning, just 400 yards off the road, knee deep in snow watching the sun rise. Still better than any day over 70.

Gen. Hugh Mercer Building

The General Hugh Mercer building houses the Mercersburg Borough Hall and the Mercersburg Police Department. Located at 113 South Main Street in, Mercersburg, Franklin County, Pa. Originally called Blacktown, Mercersburg was incorporated in 1831. General Mercer was a General during the American Revolution and is, of course, the namesake of the town. The building, itself, was built in 1904 on the site of the first town jail.
