The West Shore Theater on Bridge Street in New Cumberland originally opened in 1939 but by 1986 had run it's course and fell victim to the big movie mega-plex theater centers. It reopened in 1993 and switched to digital in 2014. But it now looks like it is showing currentish movies but the sign to the side says 'for sale'.
This is the view from the intersection of 4th Avenue (US Highway 160) and Broadway in the town of Blanca, Colorado. Straight ahead is the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and behind the low clouds is Blanca Peak. Blanca Peak, at 14,351 feet above sea level, is the forth highest summit in Colorado.
Well, Thursday was my first time at FNB Field on City Island in Harrisburg. FNB Field is the home of the Harrisburg Senators, double A affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Oh, I've been to Riverside Stadium, Commerce Bank Park and Metro Bank Park and they all sat right here. The Senators were playing the Richmond Flying Squirrels, and they won. Richmond is a farm team for the San Francisco Giants. These pictures are with my cellphone, I didn't take the big camera in with me.
After a busy, yet relaxing Friday evening we drove through the state game lands. We got there just after the sun slipped below the Blue Mountains and at first we suspected that it would be a non-sunset night. But then slowly, and briefly, the colors shined. And of course we were driving through an area set aside by the great state of Pennsylvania for the benefit of wildlife, so naturally we didn't see a thing. Not even a damn squirrel.
Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, 17236. Population 1540. Located in southwest Franklin County just north of the Mason-Dixon Line. Our 15th President, James Buchanan, was born in Cove Gap, just on the outskirts of Mercersburg and grew up in town. His log cabin still stands on the grounds of Mercersburg Academy. Also, William Findlay, Governor of Pennsylvania from 1817 until 1820 was born in 1768 in Mercersburg.
These sunflowers grew up from the spillage of the birdfeeder and the goldfinches love it. And, yes, I know that is not a hummingbird, but have you seen a downy woodpecker feeding out of a hummingbird feeder? I've also seen, but didn't have my camera, but I've seen a robin eating off a suet cake.
