Phoenix and Southwark Firehouses, Catasuqua, Pa



Catasauqua Fire Department, former stations, 338 and 344 Second Street 114-118 Front Street and Catasauqua, Pa. Lehigh County Station 2. Organized in 1895 when the Borough of Catasauqua took control of the Phoenix Steam Fire Company No. 1 (organized in 1845 as Humane FC, reorganized as Phoenix in 1866) and the Southwark Hose Company No. 9 (formed in 1873). The East End Hose and Chemical Company was added in 1916 and the Catasauqua Rescue Squad and the Catasauqua Fire Police were added in 1968.
Phoenix Steam Fire Company No. 1, organized in 1845 as the Humane Fire Company and reorganized in 1866 as the Phoenix. Originally housed in the Crane Company Fire hall on Front Street in 1868 the moved to the new Town Hall and Engine House (first picture, 2 story with red door) at 114-118 Church Street. In 1976 the Borough moved out and in 1987 a two bay garage was  built at 338 Second Street next to the Southwark's station. The building is owned by the Southwark Hose Company No. 9.
Southwark Hose Company No. 9, 344 Second Street. Formed in 1873 when the Crane Iron Company bought a Steamer from the Southwark Hose Company No. 9 in Philadelphia and retained the name for their new company. Housed originally at the Crane pattern house at Front and Wood Streets. The Crane company would later build their firehouse. 
In August 2017 CFD opened the new Municipal Complex, including the fire station, at 90 Bridge Street, Catasauqua, Pa.  In 2020 the Borough Counsel decertified the original fire companies and certified Catasauqua Firefighters Association as the sole provider of volunteer fire service in the borough.

Volunteer Hose Company, Station 27





Volunteer Hose Company, Station 27, 27 West Green Street, Middletown, New Castle County, Delaware. Volunteer Hose was established in September 30, 1887 and serve out of 2 stations. Station 1 in located out of town on Churchman Road. Station 27 houses 3 ambulances, a boat, an air unit, mini-pumper, two engines, a rescue-pumper and a ladder truck.  The old station located on South Broad Street, was a converted bank built in 1872 and renovated in 1927 for the fire company. This station was dedicated in October 2000.

LAFD began as a volunteer company, becoming a city fire department on February 1, 1886. Engine 5 dates to 1888. Originally housed at Towne Avenue and Forth Street 1888-1912, 525 East Forth Street from 1912-1950, 6621 West Manchester from 1950-2006 and moving into this station, alongside the Los Angeles International Airport, in 2006. LAFD consists of 3246 firefighters and respond to more than 1300 fire calls every day.

Hokendauqua Fire Company No. 1






Hokendauqua Fire Company No. 1, Whitehall Fire Department, 3022 South 2nd Street, Whitehall (Hokendauqua), Pa. Lehigh County Station 38. Whitehall Township FD includes Laurel FC, Fullerton FC, West Catasauqua FC, Egypt FC and Hokendaugua FC. HFC was created by ordinance August 21, 1930. The Original station, seen to the rear was built in 1941, an older steel building sat in front of the old station and was upgraded and replaced in 2013 by a new and bigger steel building, adding another bay to the south and a gear room to the north. Hokendauqua was the last station in WTFD to use a house siren, it went out of service in September 2012 when preparations were made for the remodel.
