The Riverside Fire Company No. 15 was first organized in late 1915 in the Riverside section of Susquehanna Township. But it wasn't until 1919, after the area was annexed into Harrisburg city, that the volunteers really got moving. Their first quarters was at North 6th street at Vaughn Street in the garage of the Bob White Bakery, just 1 block North of the current location at North 4th and Lewis Street. A Reo/Boyd Brothers combination hose and chemical wagon was the first engine of the Riverside, it had once served the Citizen Co. 3. In 1924 this station house was built and dedicated in September. The addition to the rear was added in 1935. The bell in the tower was donated by the Good Will Co. 7 when their station was closed in 1959. And in 1971 Engine 15 was moved to the Camp Curtin house in a citywide move for better fire protection. The Riverside has the Harrisburg distinction of being the only volunteer station to have always run motorized apparatus.
