Allentown Fire Department, old Columbia No. 4

Allentown Fire Department, old Columbia No. 4, 22 North 10th Street, Allentown, Pa. Lehigh County. Allentown Fire Department was formed February 9. 1870 from the 4 volunteer fire companies serving the city. Columbia was originally at 714 Hamilton Street until 1885 when it moved to this station on 10th Street. It remained here until December 16, 1958 when the city moved it to the new Central Station on Chew Street with Engine 9 out of the Pioneer Station. Central Station is one of the busiest in the city.

Another snowy Shippensburg picture. I just can't stand on Dykeman Road to take pictures of the Hatch House and not snap a couple of the Mansion. So here you go.

It's the Woody Woodpecker Show

These are some of the woodpeckers that hang out on the suet feeder. It can get challenging taking their pictures on this feeder, it hangs on a 30" chain. When they first land on it, it spins. The spinning made the woodpecker smackdown last weekend tough to get any good pictures of. they kept spinning. (female Downy Woodpecker, male Red-bellied Woodpecker and the male Northern Flicker)

It's Snowing Again

It snowed again yesterday. Big surprise. Less than three weeks until spring. Until then, remember, it's still winter.

Chambersburg Fire Department, Headquarters Station

Chambersburg Fire Department, Headquarters Station, 130 North Second Street, Chambersburg, Pa. Franklin County Station 1. The Chambersburg Fire Department is a combination career and volunteer department. What started in 1780 with the Friendships, the Juniors in 1872, the Good Will in 1877 , the Cumberland Valley also in 1877 and the Franklins in 1903 (and the many other companies in-between) saw some consolidation in the mid-1970's. In 1975 Headquarters station was built to house the Junior and CV companies. In 1976 the Friendship and Good Will companies moved together into the McKinley Street Station. Also in 1976, William Sheppard was hired as the first career Fire Chief.
