Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial, July 1985

Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial, Hamm, Luxembourg City, Luxembourg. I visited here on our way back into West Germany from a weekend vacation to Lux City. This place is big. 5,076 burials including General George S. Patton. A lot of the dead fought at the Battle of the Bulge. The Battle was fought nearby in the winter of 1944/45. This was one of the trips I made within my first six weeks in Europe.

Live Fire Training - June 1980

Live fire training in 1980. Was there any other kind of fire training? This is the before, during and after pictures of the first fire of the day. (When live fire training, always start in the attic and burn your way down). In June of 1980 I was just a rookie junior member and this was my first time packed up in a real fire. It didn't turn out as planned and became a benchmark of how you don't want things to go. Let's just say every time since has been a lot better than this one. Dr. Seuss once said, "Oh, the places you'll go." If you know any of these people, you would have to agree. (p.s. not my pictures. Thank you to whoever took them. Although this day is etched in my memory it's nice to look back and show others)

Surveying the Tunnels

In 2001, the Pennsylvania Turnpike was in the design phase for widening the roadway and flattening a curve on the east side of the double tunnels, the Kittatinny and Blue Mountain Tunnels, so we surveyed to establish the alignment of the tunnels (there is a slight curve on the east side). So, over two days the PTC shut down one side, then the other, while we traversed through. Being the end of March and warming up outside, this place was a proverbial wind tunnel. The PTC also took advantage of the closure and to perform some maintenance. #surveylife
