Marathon Automobiles (PG 188)





Painted Gentleman Number 188 comes from Nashville, Tennessee. Marathon Automobiles was only around between 1907 until 1914. Marathon Motor Works started from the Southern Engine and Boiler Works in Franklin, Tennessee. The company tried to build all parts for their autos in house.  By 1909 they had two models selling for $1500 and sales reached 400 units. In 1910 they moved to larger quarters in Nashville. Things grew from there selling 10,000 cars in 1912. Soon the "Board of Directors" were making the decisions and by 1914 the end was there. Nine Marathon Autos are known to exist today. This building is known today for other reasons...
