City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services, Goodwill Station 5

City of York Department of Fire/Rescue Services, Goodwill Station 5, 833 East Market Street, York, Pennsylvania, York County Station 99-5. Organized December 14, 1839 as the Springgarden Active Fire Company and housed equipment in a one story wooden building at Market and Franklin Streets. In 1852 they changed their name to the Good Will Fire Company No. 1 of Freytown. In 1858 they built a station at 669 East Market Street. Freytown was annexed into York City in 1890. In 1894 they purchased and remodeled a 3 story house in the 800 block of East Market into their new engine house. June 25, 1900 Goodwill joined the York City Fire Department. Renamed again July 15, 1901 as Goodwill Steam and Chemical Fire Company No. 5. On September 26, 1903 they opened their new and current station at the site of the old Engine House. 

York City organized a fire brigade as early as 1770. York City Fire/Rescue is a combination career/volunteer department operating out of 4 station, down from the 9 stations. In 2022 YFD ran just over 13,000 calls.
