Scout Day

On the final day of September we did a little scouting for my pronghorn hunt. We circled the area, we drove many gravel roads and then came back in the afternoon and did it again. We saw plenty of game, pronghorns, mule deer, whitetail and a coyote. The coyote, actually, was the only critter that we saw on the one square mile that was suitable and had public access in the area I could hunt. It made tomorrow's plans easy to make.

Pack In to Elk Camp - 1998

Pack in to elk camp in October 1998. This was a first season hunt and our third season with Colorado High Guide Service. Not our best season in the Flat Tops but far from our worst. I shot a small muley buck one evening near dark. By the next morning the coyotes had gotten the best of it. From what I can remember anymore it wasn't too cold and I don't think we had any snow that year. It was one of the few years that we flew out and rented vans.

Colorado 1990

In the fall of 1990 we made our second trip to the Meeker area of Colorado hunting elk and mule deer. Most of were still learning how to hunt the west. We brought home two bucks. in the top picture that young buck got stuck in the fence when he tried to jump it.  Dad and I freed him and let him go on the other side of the fence. Momma was nearby yelling the whole time.

2017 Shippensburg Fair Results

This year I quietly entered four pictures into the Shippensburg Fair. When asked how I thought I would do, I said that nothing really stood out like last year. The "Okeechobee Sunrise" was my best bet, but I thought maybe a little too dark. The "Pack Out" picture, as much as I liked it, I think was too busy. The "Richmond 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb" didn't stand much of a chance. The Ship Fair judges usually don't like fire pictures. I considered not entering it but eventually entered it in the 'Other' category. The "You're A Daisy If You Do" picture I thought too might stand a slim chance but flower pictures are tough there. Anyways, 1 blue and 1 red are fine with me. I don't take pictures for contests, I take pictures, the contest comes later. And hey the $8.00 I won should cover my printing, matting and framing costs  my gas to drive the half mile to enter them. See you next year... At The Fair.

OK, sorry I missed it by a few days. The home offices here at the Outskirts of Suburbia are undergoing some unexpected renovations. But hey, how about last year? And can you believe it's been 10 years? Holy smokes. This past year saw not one but three trips to Florida. You can expect more. Another adventure to Colorado. More flowers, more birds, new critters, new baseball stadiums and many more fire stations. But the one constant here is something new even if it's just another sunset or sunrise. We could always use more of those. And I did very well at the Shippensburg Fair, four blue ribbons and a red ribbon out of five entries.
