Really Big Arrows

How about a little 'Larger Than Life' on a Thursday morning? We found these big old arrows stuck in the ground right near these plywood tee-pees. They were at The Hogan Trading Post outside of Mancos, Colorado. Mancos is near Mesa Verde National Park. Unfortunately the shop was closed already, so we did no shopping. Conflicting stories have them being built either in 1959 or 1986. They look more like 1959 roadside Americana to me.

Now, That's One Big Candle

Yes, that is one big candle. Warm Glow Candle Company Outlet can be found on North Centerville Road in Centerville, Indiana, just off of Interstate 70. Nice place for a break and to stretch your legs. We got off this exit to get gas, our first gas stop. So when you hear about places to go on a tank of gas, you don't think of eastern Indiana. (447 miles, 7 hours and 15 minutes)

The Hammer Museum

The Hammer Museum, 108 Main Street, Haines, Alaska. How could I have forgotten to post these pictures. Unfortunately we did not venture into the museum, but there was tons of fun right out in the front yard. The museum opened in 2002 and houses some 1500 hammers. The big one out front stands 19 feet 8 inches.

Woodpecker Column

These larger than life woodpeckers (a yellow-bellied sapsucker and a pileated woodpecker) were spotted along Bremner Boulevard in downtown Toronto. They are the work of a pair of artist known as Fastwurm. The 'Tree' is 30 meters (100 feet) tall, so the birds have got to be 10 or 12 feet tall.

I'll Never Tire of Flowers

Spring's springing just keeps rolling along. The folks at Shetron's Tire on West Orange Street in Shippensburg obviously have a green thumb.

When driving east on Route 30 nearing the top of the mountain, before heading down towards Gettysburg, on your left there will be some elephants. A veritable menagerie of pachyderms. At this point you know you've arrived at Mister Ed's Elephant Museum and Candy Emporium. Yes, it's the one you've heard about. And if you're one of the lucky ones you have enjoyed Mister Ed's acting abilities in the movie "Route 30". No candy this day for me though, just a few pictures of Ms. Penny. I used to stop at his old shop for peanut butter fudge, like, 35 years ago. Mmmmm. Fudge.
