Elsmere Fire Company No. 1






Elsmere Fire Company No. 1, 1107 Kirkwood Highway, Elsmere, Delaware, New Castle County Station 16. Formed March 18, 1921 as Fairview Fire Company of Elsmere and chartered August 19, 1921 as Elsmere Fire Company No. 1 of Elsmere (since there already was a Fairview Fire Company). Their first station was dedicated September 27, 1924. This station burned, apparatus and all, early morning December 18, 1946. They rebuilt and rededicated in 1951 with additions dedicated May 23, 1964. The current building was built in the side parking lot and dedicated September 12, 1993. Plans were to demolish the old building, but it remains. Elsmere apparatus includes an engine, squad, tower, utilities, two ambulances and two command units.

Wilmington Fire Department, Station 1






Wilmington Fire Department, Station 1, 400 West Second Street, Wilmington, Delaware, New Castle County Company 10. Volunteer fire service began in Wilmington with the Friendship No. 1 in 1775. The volunteer companies were organized into the Wilmington Fire Department in 1868. A full career department was established November 30, 1921. WFD consists of six engine companies, 2 ladder companies and a marine fire fighting unit with 7 stations, a headquarters and fire marshal.  Station 1 was originally on Delaware Avenue at Washington Street, this current firehouse was constructed in 1980/1981 as Station 8 with major renovations in 2008/2009. Station 1 houses Engine 1, Ambulance 1, Ladder 2 and District 2 Battalion Chief. The mural, honoring WFD firefighters and firefighters lost on 9/11/2001, was dedicated November 3, 2007.

Volunteer Hose Company, Station 27





Volunteer Hose Company, Station 27, 27 West Green Street, Middletown, New Castle County, Delaware. Volunteer Hose was established in September 30, 1887 and serve out of 2 stations. Station 1 in located out of town on Churchman Road. Station 27 houses 3 ambulances, a boat, an air unit, mini-pumper, two engines, a rescue-pumper and a ladder truck.  The old station located on South Broad Street, was a converted bank built in 1872 and renovated in 1927 for the fire company. This station was dedicated in October 2000.

Volunteer Hose Company, Station 1





Volunteer Hose Company, Station 1, 711 Churchtown Road, Middletown, New Castle County, Delaware. Volunteer Hose was established in September 30, 1887 and serve out of 2 stations. Station 27 in located in town Middletown. Station 1 houses an ambulance, a brush truck, a rescue-pumper and an aerial truck.  This station opened in February 2006.

Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder Company, Station 8, 410 Ogletown Road, Newark, Delaware, New Castle County. AHHLC was formed in 1888. Station 8 was built in 1963.

Millville Volunteer Fire Company, Station 1






Millville Volunteer Fire Company, Station 1, 35554 Atlantic Avenue, Millville, Delaware. Sussex County Station 84. The town purchased a chemical wagon in 1922,. The shed it was stored in later burned. With the wagon inside. A meeting was later held on April 14, 1936 to establish a fire department and elect officers. The VFC was chartered in 1937. In 1939 land was bought for the construction of a fire station. Ground was broken on May 12, 1984 for a new station and a dedication was held May 15, 1985 on what is still their firehouse. MVFC has a second station on Omar Road in Frankford, Delaware.

Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department

 












Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company, 28331 Clayton Avenue, Dagsboro, Delaware. Sussex County Station 73. Old Station, 31818 Waples Street. Established in 1943, their first firehouse was a two bay station on Clayton Avenue just northeast of their current station. In 1963 they moved into a new station on Waples Street. Ground was broken in November of 2012 on Clayton Avenue at Railroad Avenue and their newest station opened in July 2014. DVFC run about 200 calls per year and 500-600 EMS runs.
