Graffiti in a Small Town

This piece of thinking-man's graffiti was found on a side street in Shippensburg, PA. Of all the things to tag why would you waste your spray bomb on an ode to soup?

Almost Over

It's almost time to take the lights down. It will probably happen this Saturday. I should have gotten out earlier to take these pictures. By waiting this long I'm stuck with the lights that still work. Half the roof and half of the left center window already gave up the spirit. And the tree star wasn't made for the wind we've had this year, we'll have to figure something better for next year. It's only 10 1/2 months away.

Best Seat in the House

When was the last time you saw one of these? Even worse, when was the last time you USED one of these? I discovered this piece of pure Americana recently. Due to the law being what it is, I'll take the fifth on it's location. I've seen this old abandoned house just sitting there for years, so not long ago and early in the morning a took a roundabout walk to get some pictures and even better than the old house I found this old outhouse. This was not your run-of-the-mill privy, oh no, this was a two seater. And this, my friends, is cool.

Almost Gone (PG XLI)

This old advertisement is painted on a brick garage that has been converted to an apartment. It is for Wyrick and Wyrick Contractors in Shippensburg, PA. I don't know much about it or how long it has been there, I just know that before long you will not be able to read it anymore. This building sits on South Seneca Street between West Orange Street and Neff Avenue.

OK, It's Midnight...Now Drop'em

Depending on where you're from at the stroke of midnight on December 31st you and all your neighbors could be standing in the cold watching something drop. Or rise. I know that within an hour or so drive from here I could've seen a Strawberry, a Hershey Kiss, a Chicken, a Goat, a Cow (I thought you just tipped these), a 9 foot bag of Potato Chips, a Red or White Rose, a Bologna (yes, real smoked meat) a Car or even a Pickle. In Shippensburg, for the whatever year now, an Anchor will be dropped on the square. Oh, there will be hours of fun and games leading up to it and at quarter 'til the bars will temporarily empty onto the streets, and right along with Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest we'll count down, drop the anchor and go home. Another Great Blue Heron

Yes, this is as far as I can figure a Great Blue Heron. I'm not sure why he has different plumage than the heron I posted Saturday, maybe he's just older. Not a perfect picture, the focus is off a bit, I think it was the wind in his hair. He was hanging out on Snow Goose Pool on Assateague Island, VA with some ducks.

Have a happy and safe New Years Eve this evening, and tomorrow, I promise, no shorebirds.

Great Egret

This is a Great Egret, taken while he was catching lunch in Swan Pool along the beach road on Assateague Island, VA. He would bob down and come up with a small fish everytime, I must have taken 4 or 5 pictures of him doing this. As I mentioned with yesterday's post, if you click on the picture it gets bigger and better.
