Harrisburg Auto Show, 2011

We were in Harrisburg for the annual auto show. Again this year I didn't even take my camera inside. All pictures form inside the auto show were shot by the resident car guy. My son. These five cars are his top five picks. Maybe another time we can go through numbers six through ten. For now here are the top ten in the order they were taken. Chevrolet Camero. Audi R8 convertible. Ford Mustang Boss 302. Mazda 3 Speed. Chevy Camero, this one is tricked out. And brown.

Stop Heroin

Can you say, "Right place at the right time?" I knew you could. OK, follow me here. On the way to Harrisburg Sunday morning we jumped off the interstate in Enola for an early lunch. Leaving the restaurant we headed south along the river to cross into downtown Harrisburg instead of going further north on 81. Just past West Fairview and before we got into Wormburg I see a graffiti laden train car. Whoa! U-Turn. Through the empty parking lot. Grab the camera. Fire away. Up the hill. Through the snow and weeds for just a couple more. Creak. Crack. And away the train goes. Heading north. That close to missing it. While I disagree with graffiti and see it as vandalism, occasionally I see something that catches my eye. Something more than some delinquents misspelled name. I am impressed. Some of it could be art if it wasn't for destroying someone else's stuff. Kind of like me driving through and parking my car on private property and accessing railroad property for pictures like this. I do it for you friends.

Chambersburg's Square

This past weekend was Chambersburg, Pa's Icefest. The streets were lined with ice carvings and vendors followed Saturday night with a "Fireworks Extravaganza". The temperatures definitely were fitting of the event Saturday evening. Sculpture pictures and more later this week.

Philadelphia Eddie's

Had a very busy, not very productive weekend. The pictures will have to come later, I still haven't downloaded any of them yet. For now we go back, again, to Philly for Philadelphia Eddie's Tattoo shop at 904 Arch Street in Chinatown. No, I didn't stop in either for a tatt or even just to look around. I'll show you tomorrow how the weekend was. See you then.

San Antonio, Texas. 1983

Continuing with the Way-Back-Week, these pictures aren't exactly from vacation. No, they are from my 'Town Pass' into San Antonio while in USAF Basic Training. July 25, 1983. Firehouses and fire trucks. See how far I have evolved. And the surprise I mentioned yesterday is that the were taken with the latest in newfangled photographic equipment. A Kodak Disc camera that I got for graduation. That's right these fine framable prints came from a negative, literally, the size of your thumbnail. Someday I'll find it and post it to show you how modern I once was. That on top is the Central Fire Headquarters, 801 East Houston Street in San Antonio, built in 1938. Back of the pictures says, "across from the Alamo". Second includes a 1965 Seagrave 100' tiller truck and what appears to be a Ford snorkel. Last one is an engine responding somewhere. Notice the fireman standing up in the open jumpseats. I can hear Spanky and the Little Rascals, "Wee-Woo-Wee-Woo, Get out of the way! Wee-Woo-Wee-Woo"

Acadia Storm

Perspective. From here that looks like one big storm coming my way. Funny thing is it passed me by. Others weren't so lucky. This was in July of 2009 on Mount Desert Island in Maine. My son and I were at Sand Beach while he skim boarded and the Mrs. and my daughter were back at the cabin we stayed in. They saw the storm first hand. I just saw the storm. By the lack of comments (something I get used to on theme weeks) I must be doing something wrong, but hey you can't please them all. Way-Back-Week will continue tomorrow and I may have to flash some pictures from photographic equipment that I'd bet most of you have never seen.
