Sunset over Rogers Centre

Nothing bets an unbelievable sunset like an unbelievable sunset over Toronto. The sky to the east (right) is getting darker while you can still see sun rays from the west. And to think, had we not been in the nosebleed seats we might not have seen this.

Haines Volunteer Fire Department

Haines Volunteer Fire Department, 217 Haines Highway, Haines, Alaska. Volunteer fire service in Haines started about 1910 with in-house built apparatus. Sometime in the late 1950's they built a fire station (I assume this one). In 1960 the town of Haines combined with the next door town of Port Chilkoot as did their respective fire departments, closing the Port Chilkoot station. In the 1970's the HVFD started providing ambulance service.

The Whirlpool

The Whirlpool on the Niagara River is about 3.5 miles downstream from the Horseshoe Falls. At this point the river is flowing downhill fast and needs to make a right hand turn. This causes the swirl of the whirlpool. This is the Aero Car that you can ride across the pool in. We didn't. It looked cool though.

Niagara Falls Fireworks

^^^^This one looks like the Falls^^^^

Fireworks over Niagara Falls is Canada's longest running firework series. Hitting most Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays throughout the summer. 81 dates in all from May through November. We set up shop across the street at the edge of Queen Victoria Park. Prior to the fireworks is the nightly lighting of the Falls. I'll cover that later.

Niagara Falls, the Canadian Side

The second destination this past weekend was Niagara Falls. Staying on the Canadian side just a couple blocks from this view. Oh, we went closer, much closer. This was a walk down I did just before heading back across the bridge.

The View from Up There

Opened in 1976, the CN Tower stands 1815 feet above the city of Toronto. The viewing level is at 1152 feet up. This is the view looking west southwest.

Toronto Blue Jays at Home

Spent a long weekend north of the border. Yes, north. Passport required. We drove to Toronto to see the Baltimore Orioles play the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto, Ontario. Lately we've been back to a quest to visit all the Major League Baseball fields. This makes 13 for me. Last year was Citi Field in New York, home of the Mets. This year it was Rogers Centre and we were able to see our Orioles in the win column. More on the game later. This week will be trip highlights before was get more detailed.
