No Guarantees

There are never any guarantees in baseball. The Orioles tried it but even the guarantee of a free game ticket to everyone in attendance, they couldn't do it. The setup was that the Orioles were 1 and 12 on Sundays this season. So as an attempt to break the streak they came up with the promotion "We Win, You Win" but 4 hours of baking in the outfield sun, 29 hits and 21 runs later, they tried but they fell short and lost another Sunday game, to the Texas Rangers this week, 10-11.
Here's the guy who started the game, Radhames Liz, a rookie with one win this season, which came in his last start.
His battery mate was catcher Ramon Hernandez. Ramon usually does pretty good with the young guys, but Liz got himself into and out of two bases loaded jams in the first three innings and finally lost it in the fourth.
Liz went after them, they came back after him. Bunts, walks, singles and the homerun.
The outfielders even held a conference in centerfield during one of the many pitching changes. Unfortunately the only thing decided was that Markakis should hit at least a three run homer. He delivered this in the bottom of the eighth.
The bird was out in right centerfield, standing on the grounds crew roof trying to fire the crowd up. We did the "Let's Go O's" thing. We did the "O-R-I-O-L-E-S" thing. Even after the Bird left, some drunk guy tried it. He at least got the wave to go around the stadium twice. But he soon just became "the drunk guy"
Oh, well, maybe next time. Anything is possible in Birdland!
