The March to Destiny in Shippensburg, Pa., is held the final weekend of June. This was the seventh year. For a weekend the town of Shippensburg takes on the look of 1863 when Confederate troops passed through in the weeks before the Gettyburg battle. There are period dances, socials and encampments. The soldiers even "raid" the town by going door to door looking for provisions. The Saturday afternoon street skirmish ends with a review of the troops by President Lincoln, in front of the public library. This picture shows the President and a soldier with the 42nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry "Bucktail" Regiment.
