American Goldfinches in Winter



We found these guys hanging around at Wildwood Lake in Harrisburg earlier this month. We debated on what type of bird they were. Pretty sure they were finches but not positive. Even after looking at the chart we weren't completely convinced. Then we noticed the small print... winter phase. That's right, these pale yellow fellows are the same as these bright yellow gold Goldfinches I found along the Big Spring last summer. Bright or pale they were awesome to watch.
